AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM


SCOPE
The course gives an overview on the proper operation of the AIS; including its history, functionality, application and purpose in as far as compliance with the ISPS Code is concerned. It will also explain in detail, how the AIS can be used as an auxiliary tools in assessing close quarter situations especially in areas with restricted visibility, thereby complying with the provisions of the International Regulation for Preventing Collision at Sea (COLREGS)

OBJECTIVE

To provide adequate knowledge and necessary skills to operate and interpret the data being given by the AIS.


ENTRY STANDARDS

This course is open to all Licensed Deck Officers (Operational and Management level) who will board vessels that have been installed with the Automatic Identification System (AIS). And at the same time for all bridge navigational watchkeepers who are interested to know the system and operating principles of the AIS.
